A ground-water recharge and pumping alternative. <br /> <br />Technical analysis of the potential safety and seepage problems was <br />already underway at the time of the President's review. Intensive <br />investigation of the other issues was begun in August 1977, and <br />continued through December 1977. <br /> <br />STATE AND LOCAL INTEREST <br /> <br />Continued support by the Governor of Colorado and the Colorado <br />congressional delegation for funding of the Narrows Unit is anticipated <br />pending satisfactory resolution of these "issues." The State of <br />Colorado has assisted in the investigation of the issues ' <br />with particular emphasis on the dam safety issue. <br /> <br />Local sponsors and project beneficiaries continue to strongly urge a <br />continuation of funding. The support of townspeople in Fort Morgan <br />was evidenced by a poll conducted by a local radio station. <br /> <br />Many landowners in the area to be inundated by Narrows Reservoir have <br />requested appraisals indicating interest in selling. Opposition to the <br />project continues to be concentrated in a group of landowners in the <br />reservoir area and environmental organizations concerned about the <br />effects of the project on crane populations in Nebraska. <br /> <br />COOPERATING AGENCIES <br /> <br />Several Federal and State agencies have cooperated with the Bureau of <br />Reclamation in the investigation of the issues' identified <br />by the review team. <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />The Colorado Department of Natural Resources has been involved as a <br />partner in the selection of the independent dam safety review panel. <br />The technical analysis of a ground-water recharge alternative was also <br />discussed with Department of Natural Resources personnel. River samples <br />for determination of the bacteriological suitability of the reservoir <br />for primary contact recreation were analyzed by the Northeast Colorado <br />Health Department, Sterling, Colorado. <br /> <br />7 <br />
