002963

.

.

Natural gas is also a possible source for power. possible supplies

of natural gas are from Peoples Natural Gas in Durango and Greeley Gas

Company in Cortez.

2.2 Electric Power Service and Rates

2.2.1 Service Areas

The service area and major distribution facilities of the La Plata

and Empire Electric associations are shown in Figure D-2.l. The

distribution lines are generally 7.2 KV single phase and 12.5 KV
three phase. The single phase lines are small and in accordance with
the utilities policies, individual loads greater than 10 to 25
horsepower cannot be connected to the lines as excessive voltage
drops result. The three phase lines can handle larger loads (1), but
the distribution facilities as shown on Figure D-2.l are not very
extensive and are generally located along major roads or in
communities which have a high commercial power requirement.
Irrigation pumps would be large, most likely in excess of 100
horsepower thus requiring three phase power and would be located in
undeveloped areas along the rivers or as boosters in undeveloped
lands where three phase power is least available. Thus, the
construction of major irrigation pumps may require extensive
expansion of three phase distribution facilities to serve outlying
areas.

2
