Construction wi I I begin shortly thereafter, providing <br /> <br />funds ere made available and contracts regarding repayment, transfer of <br /> <br />storege, and cash contribution have been successfully negotiated. <br /> <br />In view of assurances by the State of Colorado that water will be made <br /> <br />available to establish and maintain a permanent pool, the definite project <br /> <br />studies are based on the assumption that a 4,500 acre-foot permanent pool <br /> <br />will be included as part of the project. <br /> <br />During the preparation of the studies, close coordination is being <br /> <br />maintained with the Bureau of Reclarnetion, the State of Colorado, and <br /> <br />local interests regarding water rights, transfer of storage, and repayment <br /> <br />contracts. Inasmuch as these agencies and local groups have the prime <br /> <br />responsibility in matters of this nature, it is considered appropriate <br /> <br />that representatives of the agency or group involved give the report on <br /> <br />their progress. <br /> <br />General Investl~ations, Arkansas Basin. The Albuquerque District is <br /> <br />presently preparing a draft of report on an investigation for flood control <br /> <br />end al lied purposes at Las Animas, Colorado, and vicinity. Copies of the <br /> <br />draft will be distributed In the near future to the Colorado Water Con- <br /> <br />servetJon Board end interested Federal agencies for field level review <br /> <br />and comroont. <br /> <br />The plan of improvement proposed in the report consists essentially <br /> <br />of a levee about 9.3 miles long on the right bank of the Arkansas River to <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />\ <br />\. <br /> <br />, <br />\ <br />'\ <br />
