the Colorado-Utah state line. The channel of the Green River

in relation with the Colorado state line forms two small tri-

angles, one north and one south of the Junction of the Yampa

with the Green River. The area within the two triangles is

located in Colorado but outside the true drainage basin of

the Yampa River. The information given in this report in-

cludes allowances for this additional watershed area and the

watershed area of Vermilion Creek which is also outside the

drainage basin of the Yampa River. This area along with the

drainage basin of the Yampa River will be referred to in the

report as the basin.

The basin includes portions of Moffat, Routt, Rio

Blanco, Garfield and Grand Counties, all in Colorado, and

Carbon and Sweetwater Counties of Wyoming. The basin is

about 128 miles long east and west and 100 miles wide north
and south at maxi umum section.
The area of the basin is 9,530 square miles with
6,719 square miles (70.5 percent) located in Colorado and
2,811 square miles (29.5 percent) located in Wyoming. It

encompasses 8.8 percent of the Colorado River Basin above

Lee Ferry with 6.2 percent in the State of Colorado and

2.6 percent in the State of Wyoming. The area in Colorado

is 17.3 percent of the drainage basin of the Colorado River

in Colorado and about 6.7 percent of the land area of the

State of Colorado.
