Lower Gunnison Basin Unit,

Uncompahgre valley - A

memorandum by FWS has been completed stating that no

N
CJ1
~
W

replacement of fish and wildlife habitat values would be
required for the winter water portion of this project.

Grand Valley Unit - The deer ~scape structures are in

place in the Stage I section of the canal. Should any deer

enter the canal during the irrigation season, a means of

escape is now available.

Reclamation is placing a sand

blanket at the exit points to monitor use of the escape

structures.

A cooperative management agreement has been drafted and

copies provided to FWS, Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW),

and Reclamation for their review. The agreement will allow

Reclamation to transfer lands and funds to the DOW for

management of lands acquired as part of the fish and wildlife
habitat value replacement.
An additional management agreement is being prepared
that would allow BLM to transfer their lands and management
authority to Reclamation for those lands adjacent to lands
Reclamation may acquire as part of the fish and wildlife
habitat value replacement. This will allow Reclamation to be
the lead agency in the direction of wildlife management on
all acquired lands, both private and BLM, associated with
fish and wildlife habitat value replacement for the Grand

Valley proj ect.

-16-
