Oregon
Utah
Wyoming

Federal Power Commission

The geographical area embraced in PSIAC is all Pacific drainages south of
the Rogue River drainage, the Colorado River Basin, the Rio Grande and Pecos
River Basins above the confluence of these rivers; all interior drainages within
the general area, and all streams flowing into Mexico

At least once each year, each Technical Subcommittee meets in the same
location as the Parent Committee. Las Vega$ and the Colorado River Water Users
Association have an unusual charm in this res;pect. I am informed there is good
attendance from PSIAC at this meeting.

The five Technical Subcommittees of PSIAC are:

1. Hydrology

2. Sedimentation

3. Phreatophyte

4. Recreation

5. Water Quality

Each subcommittee has done"o,u'tstanding work and published material con-
tributing to technical knowledge and having program usefulness. This really is not
remarkable considering that the Technical Subcommittees are composed of the
best brains among Federal and State agencies located in the Pacific Southwest.
It would be unusual if they did not make a contribution. Please keep in mind these
are Federal-State Subcommittees responsible. for performance of specific work.

To cite a few examples, the Phreatophyte Subcommittee has published
several bulletins which received widespread distribution and professional acclaim.
Personnel having membership on the Subcommittee made substantial contributions
to the work of the Senate Select Committee 0"; Water Resources. Others of the
Technical Subcommittees have contributed to the Senate Select Committee on Water
Resources in addition to preparing material to be published by the Technical Sub-
committee.

During the past year, the Hydrology Technical Subcommittee has prepared
and published reports on "River Basin Maps :Revisions" and a "Stock Water Facil-
ities Guide. "

The water Quality Technical Subcommittee cooperated.with the Recreation
Technical Subcommittee in PSIAC and CBIACto prepare and publish an "Adminis-
trative Guide Covering Public Health Problems in Recreational Areas. "

The Recreational Technical Subcommit~ee prepared and published a report
on "Recommended Procedures and Methods f6r Recreation Development at Reser-
voir Projects Undertaken by States, Counties, and other Local Public Agencies. "
This Technical Subcommittee also published \>ther reports.

The foregoing are examples of work performed by PSIAC. There are. others.

Perhaps the following example is an additional case in point. Last May I
accompanied the Phreatophyte Technical Subcommittee on a tour of the Rio Grande
to study eradication and control methods and .resultll. Late one afternoon near Los
Lunas, we stopped to examine the installatiol). of some new equipment designed to

- 30 -

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
