000871

.

.

of the Work Group in the process of developing a Habitat
Management Plan for the central Platte River.

Fiscal Year 1991 Accomplishments
The following is a summary of the study accomplishments for FY
1991 (October, 1990 - September, 1991).

A. Drafting the Work Group Report
In late FY 90, the Biology Work Group (BWG) identified three
habitat management plans for consideration by the Work Group for
use in developing management alternatives. These plans, in order
of BWG preference, were: 1) Block/Segment plan, 2) Segment Plan,
and 3) Block Plan. These were described in the July, 1990, BWG
Report. The Work Group considered the BWG recommendation and
began developing habitat management alternatives for the
Block/Segment Plan.

Briefly, the Block/Segment Plan consists of a management area in

10 of the 12 bridge segments between Lexington and Chapman,

Nebraska, (Figure 3) four of which would be large management

areas (blocks) and six would be smaller management areas

(segments). The Work Group has identified existing and potential

areas where habitat is or could feasibly be managed to accomplish

the habitat quantity and quality objectives. Once management

alternatives are proposed, developed, and recommended as

components of the habitat management plan, these management areas

will be examined in greater detail to determine the applicability

of various land and water management methods.

3
