Colorado <br /> <br />FIELD STATION DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />09128000 Gunnison River below Gunnison Tunnel <br /> <br />LOCATION.--Lat 38'31'45", long 107'38'54", (Grizzly Ridge Quad.. <br />scale. 1:24,000), in NE1/4NW1/4 sec.l0, T.49 N., R.7 W., <br />Montrose County, Hydrologic Unit 14020002, on left bank 0.4 <br />miles downstream from east portal of Gunnison Tunnel, 4.7 miles <br />downstream from Crystal Creek, and 12 miles northeast of <br />Montrose. <br /> <br />ESTABLISHMENT AND HISTORY.--Established October 1, 1903. Records <br />for 1904 computed by combining flows for Gunnison River near <br />Cimarron and Cimarron Creek at Cimarron. April 9, 1905, to <br />August 10, 1915, staff gage 300 ft upstream from diversion dam <br />at east portal of Gunnison Tunnel at different datum. August <br />21, 1915, to January 19, 1943, staff gage 500 ft downstream <br />from diversion dam at east portal of Gunnison Tunnel at <br />different datum. January 20, 1943, to September 30, 1956, <br />water-stage recorder at present site at datum 1.0 ft higher. <br />Station transferred to USGS from Bureau of Reclamation August <br />1, 1943. <br /> <br />DRAINAGE AREA.--3,965 mi' from topographic maps. <br /> <br />GAGE.--Digital, strip-chart recorder, and (sutron) platform <br />operated by Colorado Division of Water Resources, attached to <br />bubble gage, housed in a 4 ft X 4 ft timber shelter. <br />Recorder set to outside cantilever gage at shelter; limits of <br />use, 0.00 to 10.14 ft. <br />Datum of gage is 6,526.06 ft above National Geodetic <br />vertical Datum of 1929. <br />Equipment stored in small house by cableway: B Reel, 50 lb <br />ColumbUS Weight, 100 lb Columbus Weight, ice bar, cable car <br />puller. <br /> <br />PERTINENT DATA <br />Elevation 1ft) <br /> <br />Orifice, top of brass nut <br />Chain length, 17.0 <br /> <br />REFERENCE AND BENCH MARKS.--R. M. No. 1 is top of l-inch post <br />filled with concrete and set in concrete. Located 7 ft <br />streamward from shelter; elevation, 15.62 ft. <br />R. M. No. 2 destroyed. <br />R. M. No. 3 is top downstream, streamward end of boulder <br />with "X" chiseled 25.5 ft downstream from gage and 4 ft <br />streamward, elevatin 15.91. <br />R. M. No. 4 is chiseled "X" in upstream, shoreward end of <br />boulder 60 ft downstream and 21 ft streamward from shelter, <br />elevation 10.53 ft. <br />Sea level datum. - Determined from USGS B.M. standard <br />aluminum cap on left bank 120 ft east and south of tummel <br />portal. <br /> <br />-0.16 <br />
