The project is now a rea~ity. it is under
construction ~nd I hape it will be finished on time, I
think that ~etting the appropriations that they need for the
project--ordinarily when a project begins they go right through
and complete it without stopping the appropriations; unless
some unusual emergency arises like on ell out war, or some-
thing like that, but I am hoping in this case thot the project
will be completed on schedule. I feel rather confident that
we will get the appropriations we need for it.
One of our strongest supf-orters for the project wos
former President Eisenhour. I remember he used to spend the
surrvners in Denver and on one of t,Mese vocations, he took a
trip over the site of the Fryingpan and' I remember Mr. Christy,
of Pueblo, wes on the plane and I was also a passenller on that
flight; it was pointed out just e[xectly where the water . came
from and what the purpose of the 'project was, how it would
operate and I remember where the :I-Ilane landed in Grand Junction.
The western slope people wanted to be courteous and hospitable
to us and so they hod some peaches, it was in the peach sea-
son, probably August, and they lu~nt very fine peacheS iobos-
kets, so I took a peach, was enjoying it. and someone said,
.Well, it. s all right 101' you .to :steol our peaches, but don't.
steal,our-water," Now that actually happen.d on this trip'

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
