In some of the opposition to the Project we hove had

many good supporters--loyal supporters, influentiol supporters

of the bill. I remember John McCormick of Massachusetts was

one of them. He was a democrat, later,oecame democratic

speaker of the House. I was a republican. I mention this to

show that there was no partisan politics in it; and he was one

of the stron~er supporters of the proje~t; every time I would

see him he would ask how we were coming--we're going to get

the Fryingpan Project for you. Mr. Mike Kirwan of Ohio was
chairman of the subcommittee on the appropriations committee

I

which handled the appropriations for ell pUblic works projects,
which would include the Fryingpon; he was very friendly and
did what he could to support the project and helped us a great
deal in getting appropriations later on. I mention this to
shaw that you have to have friends in Congress to get projects
authorized, Now many of those who were interested in the
Fryingpan Project became very impatient, they became very un-
happy over these long delays, but it was impossible,
