PROBLEM SUMMARIES <br /> <br />This chapter contains a revised State list of all problem areas, <br />whether in Group A Dr in Group B, with ASA's identified. It also <br />contains a table relating to problem issues and effects for each <br />Group A area, followed by a detailed description, and a Regional <br />map showing the location of Group A problem areas. <br /> <br />PROBLEM LISTS <br /> <br />ARKANSAS - GROUP A <br /> <br />1. Ozarks Area, ASA 1101. The problem area includes all or <br />part of 14 counties in northern Arkansas. The 7,811 square mile <br />study area has a population (1970) of approximately 141,700. <br />Water issues are: lack of data on groundwater, lack of surface <br />water storage, reservoir regulations, and lack of interstate <br />compact. Land issues are: erosion, and localized urban flooding. <br />On-going studies of Level C are in progress. Special studies <br />have been initiated to collect and analyze data. <br /> <br />2. Ozarks Area, ASA 1104. The problem area includes the <br />counties of Benton and Washington in northern Arkansas. The 1,849 <br />square mile study area has a population (1970) of approximately <br />127,850. Water issues are lack of data on groundwater, groundwater <br />pollution from septic tanks and landfills, and interbasin transfer <br />of water. Land issues are erosion and localized urban flooding. <br />Special studies have been initiated to collect and analyze data. <br /> <br />3. Statewide. Water issues are flood control and lack of <br />data on groundwater quality. Land issues are flood control and <br />impact of land use upon groundwater quality. <br /> <br />ARKANSAS - GRoUP B <br /> <br />4. White River Basin Reservoirs, ASA 1101. Water issues are <br />reallocation of storage to allow for municipal and industrial water <br />supply and downstream releaaes for navigation, fish and wildlife. <br />Land issues are inter-basin transfer. The Corps of Engineers has <br />a study underway to evaluate the reallocation potential within the <br />White River Basin Reservoirs. <br /> <br />5. Western Arkansas, ASA 1~04. The prQblem area includes all <br />Dr a part of Sebastian, Franklin, Logan and Scott Counties, Arkansas. <br />The 2,000 square mile study area has a population of approximately <br />100,000. Water issues are: lack of quantity and quality groundwater, <br />, <br />lack of surface water storage, snd strip mining drainage water in- <br />trusion. Land issues are flooding in rural areas snd localized urban <br /> <br />5 <br />
