Union Pacific is also interested in keeping
up-to-date on the project and in possible participation
in subteam activities.

4.2

ANTICIPATED AUGUST EVENTS

Complete financial analysis on Stage III facilities to Pacific
Coast.

Develop draft of partnership agreement for venture capital
financing.

5.0 SUBTEAM: TECHNICAL/ENGINEERING (Legal)
5.1 JULY EVENTS

Clinton and Jonez (Colorado River Water Quality Office)
met with representatives of Utah Power and Light Company
and Electric Power Research Institute regarding saline water
cooling tower status. Reclamation, Utah Power and Light,
and EPRI agreed to: (1) jointly evaluate the possibility
of moving EPRI water chemistry laboratories to a brackish
water source, and (2) develop a joint plan of tower verification
for heat rejection purposes. A joint strategy paper will
be prepared with Reclamation's Colorado River Water Quality
Office taking the lead role.

The liaison with King Wilkinson on investigating possible
options for saline water cooling tower design has been turned
over to Bessler of Reclamation's Colorado River Water Quality
Office.

Capital and O&M costs were provided by International Engineering
Company (IECD) for the test loop, Stage I, and Stage II.
IECO is continuing to assess possible options for Stages I
and II to optimize project benefits. The study includes
analyzing the effects of the coal/CO ratio, CO sources,
CO? waste versus recycling, and thr06ghput of S2and 10 million
tons per year coal.

Roberts and Schaeffer Engineering Company has indicated
an interest in working with us on fine coal cleaning technology.
Stearns-Roger has agreed to discuss a new coal cleaning
technology.

A good start has been made in identifying alternate sources
of CO2 in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. Factors being considered
are: location, reserves, costs, possible markets for enhanced
oil recovery, and a possible jOint venture with an oil/gas
company on the pipeline.
