<br />G~J3~7 <br /> <br />Purpose: The section which deals with this category conducts hydrologic <br />studies of water resources in the state; performs studies and <br />recommends minimum streamflows and natural lake levels to main- <br />tain fishery and environmental values; investigates and makes <br />recommendations concerning the environmental impact of water <br />resource development and use; conducts studies necessary for <br />the acquisition of water rights for authorized state purposes; <br />and investigates and prepares recommendations concerning the <br />establishment of wild and scenic rivers and other special-use <br />areas insofar as such areaS would affect the development and <br />use of water resources. <br /> <br />III. ACTIVITIES <br /> <br />A. Planning <br /> <br />1. The Colorado Water Study: During the year, members of the Board's <br />staff participated in this study which is being conducted under <br />the leadership of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. <br /> <br />2, Federal Water Resource Planning Investigations: The Board's staff <br />participated actively in water resource planning investigations <br />under way in the state by various federal agencies. These include: <br />Water and Related Land Resources Management Study, Metropolitan <br />Denver and South Platte River and Tributaries, Colorado, Wyoming <br />and Nebraska, by the Corps of Engineers; Rio Grande Basin, Colorado <br />and Arkansas River Basins, Colorado, by the Soil Conservation <br />Service; Grand Mesa Project, Dominguez Reservoir Project, Upper <br />Colorado Resource Study, Front Range Unit, Animas La Plata Project, <br />San Miguel Project, West Divide Project, Republican River Total <br />Water Management Study, and the Llano Estacado Total Water Manage- <br />ment Study, by the Bureau of Reclamation; and the Environmental <br />Assessment Study in the Yampa River Basin by the U. S, Geological <br />Survey. <br /> <br />3, Floodplain Information Studies: During fiscal year 1977-78, the <br />Board negotiated twenty-two contracts for floodplain information <br />studies. Many of the studies were contracted jointly with other <br />state or federal agencies, or with local entities, on a matching <br />fund basis. The status of floodplain studies through June 30, 1978, <br />was as follows: <br /> <br />Number of miles completed <br />Number of miles under contract <br />Number of miles to be studied <br /> <br />1,823 <br />500 <br />1,000 <br /> <br />In compliance with House Bill 1041, the Board developed a model <br />floodplain regulation ordinance in 1975, This regulation is <br />presently being revised to meet the requirements of the National <br />Flood Insurance Program. <br /> <br />-3- <br />
