<br />002225 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />PACIFIC SOUTHWEST INTER-AGENCY COMMIrrTJ!JE <br />Quarterly Report for Colorado <br />71-3 l-1aeting <br /> <br />Construction <br /> <br />The Hensel Phelps Construction Company of Greeley, Colorado, low <br />bidder for Crystal Dam, the third and final dam for the Curecanti <br />Unit near Gunnison, filed notice of alleged errors in preparing <br />bids. After review of the supporting data, the Bureau of Recla- <br />mation rejected all bids for this project and announced that the <br />design of the dam would be changed from earth fill to a thin <br />concrete arch. It was hoped that bids for the revised structure <br />could be solicited next spring, and that considerable money could <br />be saved by the design change. Phelps bid was $25,983,380. The <br />next lowest bid was $31.7 million and the engineer's estimate was <br />$20,999,997. <br /> <br />Advance Planninq <br /> <br />The definite plan report for the Savery-Pot Hoook project near <br />Craig has been published and distributed. The Environmental Impact <br />Statement was sent out to the cooperating agencies for their <br />informal review and comments. <br /> <br />Feasibilitv Investiqations <br /> <br />Representatives of the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation were provided <br />a tour of the Basalt Project near Glenwood Springs to acquaint <br />them with the recreation potential of the area. Investigations <br />and studies are continuing on the agricultural economics, water <br />operations and design preparation. <br /> <br />Drilling was completed at the Juniper Damsite of the Lower Yampa <br />Project near Craig. An inspection was made to evaluate the pos- <br />sibility of constructing a concrete dam instead of an earth fill <br />dam. <br /> <br />Conqressional Fundinq <br /> <br />On July 26, 1971, the House Committee on Appropriations sent to <br />the House of Representatives its report on the Public Works <br />Appropriation Bill for fiscal year 1972. On July 31, 1971, the <br />U. S. Senate passed its version of the Public Works Appropriation <br />Bill. Both versions for the advance planning program of the five <br /> <br />;1:. ~ <br />
