<br />- 5 - <br /> <br />Station <br /> <br />Location and Description <br /> <br />US-2 <br /> <br />Dolores River, 1.3 miles above Slick Rock plant, <br />below Burro Mine. Stream depth rarely more <br />than 6 inches. Bottom covered with large, mud- <br />coated rocks. Mud deposits at side of channel. <br />Flow interrupted during survey, <br /> <br />US-5 <br /> <br />Seepage from Slick Rock plant tailings pile. <br />Sample taken from a flume and weir arrangement <br />set into the river bank at the edge of the seep <br />area. <br /> <br />US-3 <br /> <br />Dolores River, 0.9 miles downstream from Slick <br />Rock plant. Bottom similar to US-2, less muddy. <br />Salt deposits on exposed rocks. Flow channel <br />7' to 8' wide, 2" deep in riffle area. Flow <br />interrupted during survey. Corresponds to <br />Station B-2. <br /> <br />:::US-6 <br /> <br />Dolores River 1/4 mile above confluence with <br />San Miguel River. Flow in two channels most <br />of time; one shallow, rapid, the other slightly <br />deeper, slower. Extensive salt deposits on <br />exposed rocks, stream very turbid. Bottom rocky <br />with thin film of mud coating. Corresponds to <br />Station B-3. <br /> <br />B-6 <br /> <br />San Miguel River near Naturita, 1/2 mile below <br />VCA mill, approximately river mile 18. <br /> <br />US-7 <br /> <br />San Miguel River at Colorado Highway 141 bridge, <br />0.9 miles upstream from Uravan mill. Stream width <br />generally 20-25 ft., depth 2-1/2 ft., clear and <br />swift. Bottom rocky with little mud, but algae <br />growth present. <br /> <br />US-11 <br /> <br />Ditch drainage from mesa above Uravan mill. <br />Enters river below mill diversion channel. <br /> <br />US-9 <br /> <br />Effluent from tailings pond farthest upstream, <br />uranium and vanadium stripped liquor. "Plant 5 <br />overflow." <br /> <br />US-lO <br /> <br />Effluent from second tailings <br />stripped ion exchange eluate. <br />press filtrate." <br /> <br />pond in series, <br />"Yellow cake <br /> <br />US-8 <br /> <br />Dir ect discharge to San Miguel River, vanadium <br />precipitation tailings liquor.
