Gaging Station, Colorado River at Northern International
Boundary

c

This station is located slightly upstream from Morelos Dam and is
operated and maintained by IBWC. It is the principal measuring point
for delivery of Mexico's treaty water in the Colorado River.
Reclamation operates and maintains a Te1emark system that is paged by
radio equipment at the Imperial Dam Control House. Hourly flows at
this station are recorded. This information has been very helpful in
regulating the required delivery of water to Mexico. During periods
of high discharges below More1os Dam, this gage is affected by
backwater and at those times is not as accurate as during more normal
flow conditions. The radio equipment functioned very well during
1981.

VII.

SUMMARY OF COSTS TO THE GOVERNMENT, IMPERIAL DAM PROJECT

Under the terms of the March 1952 Amendatory Contract with the Imperial
Irrigation District, O&M of the All-American Canal Headworks and Trashrack
and the Desilting Basins at Imperial Dam, along with the remaining portion
of the All-American Canal, was transferred to the District on May I, 1952.
Reserved works that continued to be operated by Reclamation, include Laguna
Dam, the Gila diversion works, the California and Gila sluiceway gates, and
the overflow weir section of Imperial Dam.

The actual O&M of the reserved works is financed with funds advanced by the
water users who share in the water diverted at Imperial Dam. In addition,
Reclamation is required under the terms of the Mexican Water Treaty, the
All-American Canal Amendatory Contract, and Secretarial Order No. 2685 to
continue river investigations and analyses in the field of hydrography and
aedimentation, prepare master schedules for operations at Imperial and
Laguna Dams, and supervise all phases of activity in connection with these
operations. The following table shows a summation of the funds expended
during calendar year 1981.

17
