.

.

.

Municipal and industrial water from the project
(ulti~atc capacity 74 ft3/s) would help meet the
needs of anticipated population increases in the
Grand Valley area, as well as a potential fossil
fuel po~crplant.

Attractive recreational and fishing ,opportunities
would be provided since the maximum reservoir
fluctuation would be limited to about 20 feet.
Recreational facilities would be provided at
several sites on Dominguez Reservoir, while picnic
and rafting facilities ,...auld be developed on the
river below the dam. A visitors' center would
be constructed to explain the project and inter-
pret cultural resources of the area.

.March 1980

Construction of the project would necessitate
relocation of about 36 miles of the Denver and
Rio Grande Western Railroad to a new alignment
roughly parallel to u.s. Highway 50 between
Whitewater and Delta, Colorado.

Transmission lines would be constructed from
Dominguez Dam Pumping/Powerplant to the switch-
yard and from Rim Basin Pumping/Powerplant to the
switchyard. Existing transmission systems would
be used to transmit the power to Colorado River
Storage Project delivery points. The Department
of Energy Western Area Power Administration would
be responsible for transmission and marketing of
power.

MARCH 1980 STATISTICS
(Annual use/production)

Water supply (acre-feet)
Industrial
Municipal and light industrial
Total

Stream depletion (acre-feet)
Consumptive use
Reservoir evaporation
Total

Salinity concentration effect at
Imperial Dam (mg/L)

Hydroelectric power (megawatts)
Rim Basin pump-storage
Dominguez Dam

Features
Dominguez Reservoir
Rim Basin Reservoir
Municipal pipeline

Estimated construction cost (1978)

Benefit-cost ratio (6-7/8 percent)

36,00o!/
21,800
57,800

43,600
25,500
69,100

6.6

500
18

302,000 acre-feet
9,870 acre-feet
4.3 miles

$330 million

1.1:1

11 Currently deleted by the planning team

35
