Impacts from higher salinity levels in the form of increased costs

~
~
-J
U1

associated with municipal and industrial use and increased costs

and/or reduced yields for agricultural uses would, however, be felt
throughout the Lower Region.

Impacts from Reduced Water Supply

Reductions in water supply will impact on hydropower generation and
on agricultural users on the CAP.

Impacts on Hydropower Generation. - Reductions in water entering
the Lower Region at the compact point will result in reduced
energy generated at Hoover Powerplant and the Parker-Davis

complex. Estimates of impacts on hydropower generation were

based on the differences in power generated at Hoover Dam and
Parker-Davis Powerplants with and without the respective alter-'
native rates of energy development in the Upper Region. Table 2

presents the reduced energy generation and associated monetary

impacts. These impacts are based on the estimated cost of

replacing the lost power in the service network.

As discussed earlier, there are changes in the water supply in

the different alternatives caused by the three different rates of

development. This, in turn, causes reservoirs to fill differ-

ently and as the surplus and shortage criteria depend upon the
reservoir elevations, the total system operates differently. The

amount of power generated is a function of both water supply and

14
