I~

.

.

.

livestock operations and increased the need for more farm-grown

feed. Many of the farmers have depressed living standards because

of limited agricultural production.

Additional municipal and industrial water is needed to

meet the requests of local municipalities and communities. This

need for additional municipal and industrial water is accentuated

by the population growth anticipated in the years ahead. The

already important recreational attractions of the area soon will

be greatly increased with completion of the Curecanti unit of the

Colorado River Storage project.

Control of flood flows of the Uncompahgre River is needed

to prevent the inundation of farm lands and frequent channel

changes that now occur during the spring snowmelt period and dur-

ing heavy rainstorms.

Under the proposed plan of development, irrigation water

supplies would be increased by an average of 60,300 acre-feet

annually for use on l4,900 acres of full service land and l3,720

acres of supplemental service land. Municipal and industrial

supplies averaging l5,000 acre-feet yearly would be provided by

the project.

The Dallas Creek Project will cost approximately $37.8

million. Of this, approximately $33.9 million will be repaid to

the federal government with only about $3.9 million nonreimburs-

able. Approximately $l/3 million has already been paid by power

Dallas Creek Project

-2-
