Morrill, Sr. Water Resource Engineer <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />Denver, Colorado <br /> <br />June 9, 1965 <br /> <br />The Dallas Creek Reclamation Project is a proposed multi- <br /> <br />purpose water resource development in southwestern Colorado, approx- <br /> <br />imately 80 miles from the state's western and southern borders. It <br /> <br />would develop water of the Uncompahgre River and tributaries for <br /> <br />irrigation and municipal and industrial uses. It would also pro- <br /> <br />vide benefits to recreation, fisheries, and flood control. <br /> <br />In the Dallas Creek project irrigation service area <br /> <br />there is an urgent need for additional and dependable irrigation <br /> <br />supplies to improve and stabilize the economy of the farmers and <br /> <br />of related industries. At the present time the late-season water <br /> <br />shortages on irrigated lands commonly result in crop failures. <br /> <br />Dry-land farming is practiced to a limited extent but results are <br /> <br />uncertain. Large acreages once cleared for dry farming at a con- <br /> <br />siderable expense are no longer farmed because of crop failures <br /> <br />due primarily to insufficient rainfall. Decreases in grazing <br /> <br />privileges on public lands in recent years have adversely affected <br />
