",,
" ",

CHAPTER III

DESIGNS AND ESTIMATES

McKenzie Canal

,
McKenzie Canal, heading at the outlet of the Ridgway Pumping Plant
discharge line, would extend 15.7 miles northwest across lower Log Hill
Mesa. It would have an initial capacity of 205 second-feet and a ter-
, , '

minal capacity of 25 second-feet. The canal would include 0.1 miles

of concrete-lined tunnel, 1 mile of precast concrete pipe siphon, and

14.6 miles of compacted earth-lined sections.

The canal would traverse the genClle slop~s of Log Hill Mesa inter-

rupted only by the several deep canyons that drain the mesa. Most of

the canal would be constructed in sandy clay overlying Dakota sandstone

and shale. 1.iI!ning for the canal could be provided from material avail-

able along the canal alignment.

Dallas Creek Feeder Canal

The Dallas Creek Feeder Canal would extend about 13.5 miles from

the East Fork of Dallas Creek to Dallas Divide Reservoir. The canal

Wluld include 11.3 miles of earth-Hned section and 2.2 miles of con-,

crete conduit and siphon. It would have an initial capacity of 135 second-

feet and a terminal capacity of 150 second-feet. Inlet structures of

from 6- to 20-second-foot capacity would be provided on the East, Middle,

and West branches of West Dallas Creek which the canal would intercept.

The canal alignment is in silty clay soil which is underlain at'

various depths by Mancos shale or by s~ndstone and shale. Adequate soils
for earth lining material are available aiong the canal alignment. Con-
crete aggregates oould bl obtained along the Uncompahgre River near

Ridgway.

'e'

I
I
I
I
I
,
,

r

,
I,
r
1
I

1
