Review Committee. and <br />the Executive Review Committee. <br /> <br />GCES/Congressional Ri ver <br />Trip AugusI9-15, 1989 <br /> <br />The initiation of the GCES/EIS <br />pl'ocess again focu.'1ed the atltc>ntion <br />of the public and congrei'lsional <br />staffa on the GeES program. and <br />the need to t1nderatand the <br />pl'oblemg and isslle~ f\Ssociated <br />with the management of all of the <br />resources of the Colorado Hiver. <br />Consequently. the GeESt <br />Congl'essional rivel' trip was <br />organized to allow the involved <br />groups Ul get together and see t.he <br />concerns fir.!!t hand. and di~cuss <br />their expectation~ and involvement <br />in the GCES/EIS program. The <br />objective of the effort is to begin to <br />build an open di~cussion process <br />that will assist ldl of the GeES <br />groups as the NEPA procesg begins. <br /> <br />Approximately 30 representatives <br />from the management. bureaus, <br />agencies, congres.!!ional staffg, and <br />the public will participate in a <br />discussion and learning session in <br />the Grand Canyon. This has pl'ovt>n <br />to be a very popular trip with far <br />more requests for participation <br />than room allows. Activities will <br />include tours of both the Glen <br />Canyon Dam powerplant. and the <br />Navajo Generation Station. From <br />there. the group will be bused to tht> <br />South Rim lind hike to Phantom <br />Ranch. Dr. Patten, David Wegnel', <br />and several GeES researchers will <br />lead discussions on the ,'arious <br />areas of the technical study <br />program. We anticipate a <br />thoughtful and informative ~es'lilln. <br />In the next Update. a report on the <br />pl'ogress will be mode, <br />
