The Forum recently completed the 1978 revi-

sions to the Colorado River salinity standards and recom-

mended their adoption by the individual Basin states.

The Forum, in analyzing the salt routing studies made for

the 197e revisions, discovered that there has been a

significant reduction in the salt load occurring in the

river since the mid-1960's. The Work Group in

cooperation with the Bureau of Reclamation is ,under-

taking a detailed study of the salt load and its

impact on projected salinities.

In addition, the Work Group is reviewing the Section
208 Water Quality Plans in the Colorado River Basin for.
conformance with the Forum's Water Quality Standards for
" Salinity.

,
"

Program Recommendations
Bureau of Reclamation

Las Vegas Wash Salinity Control Unit
The Bureau of Reclamation's current studies of the

Las Vegas Wash Unit have shown that highly saline ground
water mounds in the vicinity of Henderson are dllsipating
much more rapidly than originally anticipated. This is
due in a large measure to the placing of effluent limita-
tions on industrial discharges.
A part of the Bureau's proposed control project
includes the bypassing of the major portion of the
effluent discharges from Clark County's Advanced Waste
Treatment (AWT) P.lant, presently under ccrntructi..on, around

2

1-2

1
"
