SUMMARY

Fisheries
(Page C-40 of FES)

Under the FES plan, about 5 miles of the Provo River would be
eliminated by Jordanelle Dam and Reservoir. This loss includes about
1,300 feet of stream below the toe of Jordanelle Dam. Relocating the
outlet works at Jordanelle Dam would impact an additional 2,600 feet of
original stream channel below the dam, which would be replaced with
2,800 feet of excavated outlet channel. Total available habitat in the
10-mile reach between the proposed Jordanelle Dam and Deer Creek Reser-
voir would be slightly reduced from the FES analysis for both trout and
whitefish. Overall, mitigation activities described in the FES and in
this supplement would still result in a substantial gain in trout habi-
tat, while whitefish habitat would be substantially reduced.

Vegetation
(Page C-47 of FES)

Permanent vegetative losses would increase from the 3,496 acres in
the FES plan to about 3,656 acres in the modified plan, a net increase
of about 160 acres, as shown on the following table. Temporary impacts
of clearing and vegetative disturbances would increase from about 799
acres to about 931 acres, a net increase of about 132 acres. Most of
the additional impacts would occur in sagebrush-grass, oak-mountain
brush, and agricultural vegetative types. Total impacts to riparian
habitat would increase by only 4 acres.

Type of impact
Permanent loss
Temporsry loss
Total impacts

Vegetation impacts
(Units--acres)
1979
plan
3,496
799
4,295

1986
plan
3,656
931
4,587

Net
difference
+160
+132
+292

Wetland and riparian habitat

When completed, Jordsnelle Reservoir, recreation sites, and high-
way relocations will result in the loss of about 562 acres of wooded
riparian habitat. An additional temporary disturbance will occur on
about 23 acres. Most impacts are located along the Provo River. About
153 acres of emergent wetlands will be lost as a result of the project,
including 18 acres along the highway relocation alignments and 135 acres
within ~he Jordanelle Reservoir Basin. All wooded riparian and emergent
wetland losses would be mitigated by creation of wetland and wooded
riparian areas at Jordanelle Reservoir, protection and management of
existing wetland and riparian habitat associated with other mitigation
lands within the Bonneville Unit area, creation of emergent wetlands at
the upper Provo River reservoirs, or implementation of other appropriate
measures as determined by Reclamation in coordination with the EPA and
other involved agencies.

S-13
