--: ., ~ t'? ~ '1 3 Step 3 During this phase of the wilderness inventory process, the SO will review the District Manager's recommendations on initial inventory units which should be subjected to intensive wilderness characteristics inventory, arrive at a proposed decision concerning the District recommendations and conduct a pUblic review of the proposed decision. After analysis and evaluation of the public's comments, the SO will make a final decision on initial inventory units and formally announce the decision. Restrictions imposed by Section 603 of FLPMA will no longer apply to those pUblic lands not included within the boundaries of the inventory units which will be subjected to intensive wilderness characteristics inventory. Proposed Initial Inventory Unit State Map available to public, Federal Register notice of availability, news releases, mailings to individuals and groups. 5/1/79 to Public review of Proposed Initial 7/31/79 Inventory Units - Public Meetings and briefings to governmental officials and groups as necessary or upon request. 6/79 through 8/79 9/4/79 Analysis and evaluation of public comments. SO Final decision on inventory units to undergo intensive wilderness inventory, pUblic announcement, and Federal Register notice. All public lands not in Final Inventory Units will receive no further wilderness consideration.
