It is possible that the Commission will adopt
somewhat different amounts at its August 5 meeting, and conditions
prior to the spring meetings of the Conference and the Commission
may justify further modification. The Conference has not yet
formulated its recommendations as to some 60 presently authorized
flood control surveys.
In 1959, the California Conference for ~gation and
Reclamation was organized to function similarly in the interest of
Bureau of Reclamation projects. At its July 26, 1960, meeting
that body recommended the appropriation of $67,400,000 in further-
ance of the Central Valley Project, $3,800,000 for the Klamath
and Washoe Projects, $1,100,000 for general investigations, and
about $16,000,000 for loans under P.L. 984. These, too, are subject
to modification at a later meeting of the Conference and by the
Commission.

* * * * *

On March 25, 1960, Part 1 of the California Public Out-

door Recreation Plan was transmitted to Governor Brown and the

Legislature by DeWitt Nelson, Director of Natural Resources and
Chairman of the Public Outdoor Recreation Plan Committee. The
report comprises some 80 pages of attractively presented information
relative to the present status of all forms of outdoor recreation
in California, estimates of future requirements to meet the rapidly
growing demand, and recommendations for action.
The "California Public Outdoor Recreation Plan Act"
established the Committee, consisting of the Directors of Natural
Resources, Fish and Game, Water Resources, Recreation, Finance,
and Education, the Chief of the Division of Beaches and Parks, and

-2-

j;

_t-

,-Jt:~; ,~
