In. addition, we have 1Il/ldea critical review of

our own work. Based on the entire review process, we ha~e undertaken

additional work~~the results of which we will share with you at this
meeting.
Preparation for these meetings has been based on the assumption that
each participant has done his homework--specifically that he has read the
report carefully. Hence, we do not propose to repeat what has already.

been said. Your written comments seem to convey a favorable impression

with regard to statements of concept and method. Yet, it is clear that a

number of points require.elaboration and clarification. A number of

reviewers have pointed out that the agricultural projection methodology
is not sufficiently explicit.
The points to be covered by our statement include the following:
(a) A brief review of the objective and conceptual basis for our projections
program; (b) a resume of the 1Il/ljor components of the. agricultural-land use ,
projection system, including a discussion of the geographic transformation
programs that are so essential in providing materials in a form considered
to be most useful in the planning process; and (c) a summation of the work.
that has been completed since the draft OBERS report was issued... These
statements are intended to be responsive to a substantial number of specific

questions that have been raised.

The Objective. of the ERS Work

and It's Conceptual Orientation

In broad perspective the objective of the,projections program, a goal

that we. share with OBE and the Water Resources Council, is to provide an

improved economic foundation to und~~gird pUblic efforts. in the preparation

,

l:~-~;j....,
(fl.~{~
~.,~Jf~~-
7~~.>::s.~""
n"m

i
~~f:}~{~
~q:~~1
. :;-~;:" ~"-
~~t~~"-~~' ;
.,' ..-'z.;
~~~~f:~~
;-:*;:.;;.::....
~~.':_;:~~:":A
l.;'.Y-:~:_'-
i'"._~fAlfill~.J~4l:~~~fli
