The Water Department, following Colo-
rado Constitutional and Statutory law,
has obtained water rights which en.
able it to receive water from the Moffat
Tunnel, Roberts Tunnel and Williams Fork
Collection Systems.
Seven maior storage facilities, on both
the East and West Slopes, have a total ca-
pacity of some 500,000 acre feet of water
{an acre foot of water is the amount it
would take to cover one acre one foot
deep-or 325,851 gallons), including Dil-

Ion Reservoir, the largest, with a capacity
of 254,036 acre feet.
Dillon Reservoir water, originating in the
Blue River and its tributaries, is diverted
through the 23.3 mile Harold D. Roberts
Tunnel, 4,465 feet below the tip of one
of the peaks under which it passes. At ca-
pacity, it can carry 2,023 acre feet of water
daily,
Dillon, completed in 1963, ranks as a
major Colorado recreational facility, with
boating, fishing, campground and picnic

areas along its 24.5 miles of shoreline.
Also on the West Slope is Williams Fork
Reservoir, which has a hydroelectric gener-
ating plant. The 96,822 aGe feet of water
sfored here is used as exchange fa meet
downstream senior water rights require-
ments, replacing water diverted elsewhere
by the Department. The power plant, with
a production capacity of 3,000 k.w.h., sup-
plies replacement energy to the U.S. Bu-
reau of Reclamation.

"-..."/,,
.."J.,..

~ -

11""\

"/~"'",.~'.'"
','""

I

o.
o
--J
CJ1
~

b"
-..,.,:0.,.......,
....'."'.
"~.';:"~.:

I
I
I
I

.

.

"

I

I

I

~ ....
, .

,

,

...

.

~~

r!
'.(;
f'

'"'

j.~,.1
"""-'.
.~ '

__..;J

~
r
