Water is diverted from the Wil-
liams Fork Collection System
under the Continental" Divide
through the 2.9 mile August P. Gumlick
Tunnel and again under the Divide through
the 3.4 mile Vasquez Tunnel into the Fraser
River Collection System, for delivery to
the Moffat Tunnel and so, once again
under the Divide. Gumlick and Vasquez
each has a capacity of 1,091 acre feet of
water daily.
The Moffat Tunnel, using the 6.1 mile
pioneer bore of the famous Moffat Railroad

Tunnel, is leased by the Water Department.
It can transport 2,539 acre feet (827 mil-
lion gallons) of water per day from the
Williams Fork and Fraser River Collection
Systems under the Continental Divide, into
South Boulder Creek channel and Gross
Reservoir.
Gross Reservoir, with a capacity of 43,-
065 acre feet, supplies water to Ralston
Reservoir northwest of Denver, with a ca-
pacity of 11,272 acre feet, for later deliv-
ery to the Moffat Treatment Plant.

Reservoirs for storage of South Platte
River water are Antero, with 15,878 acre
feet of storage, Eleven Mile, with a capac-
ity of 97,779 acre feet, and Cheesman,
with a capacity of 79,064 acre feet of
water.
The world's highest dam-231 feet-at
the time of its completion in 1905 and for
many years thereafter, Cheesman was the
first reservoir of the mountain system.
Waters from these storage facilities flow
into Marston lake Reservoir, with a capacity
of 17,213 acre feet.

.-

I
b
f
I
I

----

~ -'-:-j
~
~~ Ili '::!I
~ ..
l'li
~ I!lI -
.
::;; ..
