<br />I I <br />Significant Activities in California and Nevada <br /> <br />January 1980-June 1980 <br /> <br />Wi 1 derness <br />. <br /> <br />Wilderness evaluations continue with field work started in four <br />areas Of the Bureau of Land, Management's Cali forni a Desert <br />Wil derness Inventory study. Fi e 1 d work was completed and report <br />writing is in progress for the Baker-Cypress-Lava Rock area in <br />Northern California. Reports for study areas of Virgin Mtn., Red <br />Rock Escarpment, Nevada, and Chemise Mtn., California, were . <br />completed. In California' no'field work was done in Forest Service <br />Wilderness areas; however, reports on 10 areas were being written <br />or reviewed. <br /> <br />RARE II <br /> <br />Field work for the Forest Services RARE II areas of Little Pine, <br />Matilija, and Diablo, California, Was completed. Evaluations and <br />reports are in various phases of completion for 41 RARE II areas <br />in California. <br /> <br />Mineral Involvement <br /> <br />WFOC personnel attended several meetings concerning MX Missile <br />depl oymenti n Nevada. Potentia I impacts of the missile deployment <br />on minerals development and the minerals industry were subjects <br />discussed in the meetings. <br /> <br />Indian Reservation Studies <br /> <br />A Phase I report was completed for the Duck Valley, Nevada-Idaho <br />reservation. The Southern California reservation group, totaling <br />237,000 acres was being studied for a Phase I report. <br /> <br />Phase II studies continue on the Pyramid Lake Reservation. A <br />news announcement'was matle that a new copper anomaly had been <br />di scovered on thereservat ion. Fi el d work and dri 11 i ng will <br />continue to evaluate the potential of the copper-rich zone. <br /> <br />C.54 <br />
