<br />7. Little Colorado River, Holbrook, Arizona. -A draft Feasibility Report <br />recommending improvements to the existing Little Colorado River levee system <br />st Holbrook was circulated for State and local .review in June 1980. A public <br />meeting on the recommended plan was held at Holbrook -ill August 1980. It is <br />expected that the report will be finalized by the Los Angeles District in <br />September 1980. <br /> <br />8. Central Arizona Water Control Study CAWCS). The Corps of Engineers is <br />assisting the Water and Power Resouri:es Service.CWPRS) 'to develop. flood <br />control and 'CAP regulatory storage alternatives for the Phoenix Metropolitan <br />area. This 'study, which began in December 1978, is currently in the Second <br />Stage of the Plan Formulationpro~ess. During this Stage, technical, <br />socio-economic, environmental, and related information are analyzed to develop <br />elements for a suitable alternative to Orme Dam and Reservoir that would <br />produce flood control apd fegulatory storage capacity. <br /> <br />9. Salt-Gila Flood Control Study, Arizona. This Corps study, being conducted <br />under the general investigation authority, was initiated in Fiscal Year 1979. <br />This study is concentrating on the development of single-purpose flood control <br />measures which are supplemental to the alternatives to Orme Dam, being. <br />developed a~ part of the Central Arizona Water Control Study. <br /> <br />FLOODPLAIN MANAGEMENT SERVICES PROGRAM: <br /> <br />1. Special Study. A special study on flood damage survey was completed for <br />south central Arizona, and southwest New Mexico was completed in March 1980. <br /> <br />2. Sonoma Creek, California. An Expanded Flood Plain Information Study to <br />develop a flood damage evaluation software model for local interests is <br />nearing completion and will be published in October. 1980. <br /> <br />MISCELLANEOUS: <br /> <br />1. National Hydropower Study. This study was authorized by Section 167 of <br />the Water Resources Development Act of 1976. The study was initiated in <br />Fiscal Year 1978, and is being managed by the ,Corps Institute for Water <br />Resources. The study will evaluate the most e.ffective methods of utilizing <br />the hydroelectric power resources. To date, potential hydroelectric sites <br />have.been,identified and screened for pbysi:ca~_potent:ial.: as well' aseconomi!::._".' <br />viability and environmental- .impacts. A national pubH~meeting was held in <br />March 1980 in Washington, DC and four regional public meetings for the Western <br />Systems Coordinating Council (WSCC) were held in August 1980 at Portland, <br />Oregon; Denver, Colorado; Sacramento, California, and Helena,Montana. The <br />study is . scheduled ,for completion in the tell of 1981. The South Pacific <br />Division is providing inputs for out area of responsibility to the North <br />Pa~ific Division of the Corps, the office that is responsible for the study <br />effort by the WSCC. <br /> <br />C-42 <br />
