The water needs in the High Plains area are not equally divided
throughout the months of the year. The storage requirements at the
terminal facility were established to provide sufficient capacity for
seasonal periods as withdrawals are needed. Table 1 provides estimated
water demands of seasonal irrigation needs. These needs are expressed
as a percentage of the total annual needs by month.

TABLE 1
SEASONAL IRRIGATION DEMANDS (SOUTHERN)*
Percent of Total
Month Year Water Demand
Jan 1.0
Feb 3.0
Mar 6.0
Apr 19.0
May 8.0
Jun 11.0
Jul 24.0
Aug 19.0
Sep 7.0
Oct 1.0
Nov 0.5
Dec 0.5
TOTAL 100.0%

*Data furnished by general contractor
The computed inflow into the terminal storage reservoir includes
an assumed 10 percent loss of transfer water due to evaporation and
seepage during transit. Although the canal system is designed to
operate at a constant flow, the design incorporates an 85% operational
capacity due to weather and normal repairs and replacement. The canals
therefore are estimated to provide for a larger capacity to compensate
for the estimated operational downtime.

D10
