The effective irrigation
water supply would be improved from an average existing supply of 63 per-
cent to an 84 percent average supply. In the latter case, an adequate
water supply would be available in most years. In the 25-1ear period of

study shortages would be greatly reduced in 11 years and would be entirely

eliminated'in 14 years. In contrast, serious irrigation shortages will

occur annually under existing conditions.

32. Operation of the Tl'inidad Reservoir for flood control and for
i,

irrigation in accordance with~onditions a, band c would not signifi-

cantly deplete the water supply presently available for water users down-

stream from the project area and consequently would not interfere with

the utilization of the conservation capacity of John Martin Reservoir.

Dampening of the peak flood flows through temporary detention in the
reservoir would provide opportunity for some additional water use by the

irrigators. However, occurrence of these opportunities at times when

irrigation requirements are at a minimum would discourage their exploita-

tion. Proper water administration would protect water users below the dam

from any adverse effects resulting from flood control operations.
