~

0:1213

.

.

..

overall economy. The agricultural economy has been weak due largely to

the limited productivity of irrigated farms imposed by uncertain and poor-

ly regulated water supplies. Improvement of the irrigation situation

through construction and operation of the proposed Trinidad project would

result 1n greatly increased farm yields and an enhanced agriculture. The

development and expansion of marketing, processing and other allied agri-

cultural industries would provide increased employment opportunities for

the population of the area and would generally sustain and improve the

whole economy.

34. A better agricultural economy would result from increased crop

yields, livestock raising and dairying. No major changes in crop patterns

are anticipated. The increase in crop yields would result from the reduc-

tion in crop abandonment from insufficient water supply, the availability

of late season water for maturing crops, the application of water at times

and in the amounts needed for optimum crop production, and the adjustment

of crop plans in advance of the planting season to fit the estimated avail-

able supply of water, as predicted from the storage content of the reser-

voir and runoff forecast.

35. Irrigation benefits. - Analysis has been made of all factors

pertaining to the cost of operation and to the productivity of the irri-
