The project was turoed over to the Hammood <br /> <br />Cooservancy District for operation aod maioteoaoce effective January 1, 1974. <br /> <br />The project provides an irrigation supply for 3,933 acres. <br /> <br />Animas .= La Plata <br />The definite plans for the Animas-La Plata Project ioclude the development of <br /> <br />34,100 acre-feet of water to be consumptively used within New Mexico, including <br /> <br />7,600 acre-feet for muocipal water service to the Shiprock-~eoahoezad-Upper <br /> <br />lruitland, New Kexico area. In the planning of the Gallup-Navajo Iodiao Water <br /> <br />Supply Project, New Mexico-Arizooa-Utah, the Southwest Regioo has included water <br /> <br />service to this same area as part of the plaoned diversion from Navajo Reservoir <br /> <br />for use within New Mexico. This duplication in planning water service is <br /> <br />expected to be resolved by the Navajo communities should they agree to service <br /> <br />from either Animas-La Plata Project or Gallup-Navajo Iodiao Water Supply <br /> <br />Project. The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commissioo has indicated that if com- <br /> <br />munitie. in the Shiprock area are oot served by the Animas-La Plata Project, <br /> <br />other 1IlI1Uicipal and industt:ial (KU) uses in lIev Kexico will be developed to <br /> <br />utilize the full 34,100 acre-foot depletioo of water identified for the New <br /> <br />Kexico portion of the Animas-La Plata Project.
