The total annual diversion requirement for e~unitiea in

New Mexico is 34,550 acre-feet with a eorresponding depletion of 29,300 aere-

feet. Projeeted depletions for serviee areas in the States of Arizona and Otah

are 6,990 aere-feet and 1,190 acre-feet per year respectively. The Southwest

Region inclusion of 5,300 acre-feet depletion for the Shiprock area c~unitie.

duplicates service to some extent for the Animas-La Plata Proj~ect that was

included in the Colorado River Basin Project authorization. Ongoing project

planning for Gallup-Navajo Indian Water Supply Project will continue to provide

for service to the Shiprock area until such time as the Tribe may elect to

contract for sueh serviee from Animas-La Plata Project. If and when this

occurs, the plan for Gallup-Navajo Indian Water Supply Project will be refor-

mulated accordingly.

Present water supply studies indicate that, with full utilization of 34,100

acre-feet of water by the Navajo Powerplant at Page, Arizona, there i. no water

remaining to be developed within Arizona '. 50,000 acre-feet apportioll18ent of

Opper Colorado River Baain water to eover the projeeted 6,990 acre-foot deple-

tion for the Navajo C01llllunities in Arizona. The Arisona Department of Water

Resources has indieated to the Southwest Region by letter dated January 18,

1982, that it is unlikely that the powerplant will utilize the full contract

amount of 34,100 acre-feet per year and that 6,990 acre-feet depletion for the

Navajo communities could be available by year 2025.

a_nd Project

The project was authorized as one of the initial participating projects of the

'"

e
!

i.:.
i-.
"
;
i~

~:.
.c
i"
j:
L
~c .
i~~>

l~
1':
~:

.
-(

!i1
,'J

~;.
~;

.
'.

.'}
....

7

f.

r..
r

I,:
~,i',:
i."
&
~:

'"
"

..~ .

.,...
