ST. VRAIN SUPPLY CANAL NEAR LYONS, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 40°13'05", long 105°15'35", NE¼NW¼ sec. 20, T.3 N., R.70 W., Boulder County.

DRAINAGE AREA.--N/A

GAGE.--A-35 Stevens’s recorder in a 36-inch galvanized shelter with supplemental outside staff gage. An 8210
Sutron data collection platform (DCP) and shaft encoder was installed in 1997. The station is
maintained by NCWCD personnel.

REMARKS.--The primary record is usually hourly DCP data with chart backup. NCWCD DCP equipment was removed
this year. DWR equipment was installed and working for August 5-31 and September 1, 19-30. For the
remainder of the year, the record was taken from mean daily chart readings, with hourly entry as
required for large ranges in stage. The record is complete except for: May 2-5, 2003 when the chart
clock was not working. However, this occurred during a period of constant flow (as recorded by the
chart’s range in stage). So the period was estimated without loss of accuracy. The peak flow occurred
on August 3, 2003 at 10:30 at GH 2.43 with 0 shift for 254 cfs. The canal was in use from October 1,
2001 to October 30, 2002 and April 7, 2003 to September 30 2003. The record is good. This record will
soon be kept as part of Water District 5 Diversion Data. At that time it will no longer be published
as part of Colorado Streamflow Data. Station maintained and record developed by Merlin Friedrichsen.
