M
" COLORADO BASIN
' Basinwide Conditions Assessment:
The SWSI value of-0.6 indicates that for March the COLORADO RIVER BASIN
asin water supplies were sightly below normal. The Soil s Surface Water Supply ^max Hldory
Conservation Service reports March 31 snowpack at 88% of 4- .
normal. Storage in Green Mountain, Ruedi, and Williams '
Fork reservoirs totaled 123% of normal on March 31. The _ -
National Weather Service reports basin precipitation as 55% 2 )
of normal during March. However, several large storms in the -4 ,
JAMBS JANB6 JANB7 JANBB JANB9 JAN90 JAN91 JAN92 JAN93 JAN94
first part of April have helped the snowpack greatly. Base M3NTH/YEAR
flows of area streams have remained close to normal.
Administrative/Management Concerns
The 1,250 cfs call of 1-17-1902 for the senior right at '
the Shoshone Hydroelectric Power Plant was reinstated on COLORADO RIVER NR. DOTSERO
April 1. It had been off from January through March for 700 FLOW BY WATER YEAR
maintenance on the generating turbines. The flow in the
Colorado River near Palisade was almost low enough in the MO
first part of April to necessitate a "Cameo" call (4-26-1914). I s00
This call involves the Government Highline Canal and the
Grand Valley Irrigation Canal. It is still possible that the call of 406
might be initiated for a short time in April. Since the Roaring W g 300 .
'ork Basin snowpack is below normal and the upper Colorado
Liver Basin is near normal, the "Cameo" calls will likely 5 200
control the river during the late summer and fall months
10D
including part of July and all of August, September, and
October. 0
Oct boo Doc Ja. The construction
of Wolford Mountain Reservoir has picked up again and it will
be a very busy summer for the contractors. Half of the REPRESENTATIVE RESERVOIRS
foundation has been excavated and work has started on the 70 COLORA00 RIVER BASIN
outlet structure. When that is finished, the river will be
diverted through the outlet and the rest of the foundation will 60-
be completed, and theembankment then built.
