SAN JUAN/DOLORES/ANIMAS BASIN
Basinwide Conditions Assessment:
The SWSI value of 0.1 indicates that for October basin SAN JUAN/DOLORES/ANIMAS RIVER BASINS
water supplies were normal. Storage in McPhee, Vallecito, 5 Sort"'l9ter Supply °°" "`story
and Lemon reservoirs totaled 121%of normal as of the end of 4_
October. Flow at the gaging station Animas River near -▪ 3- F

Durango averaged 332 cfs as compared to the 1961-1993 .
average of 376 cfs. The National Weather Service reports 2-
basin precipitation at 11% of normal during the month.
No precipitation fell during the month in the lower fl • J
elevations. Some ground covering of snow was seen in the
mountains. The very dry conditions caused irrigation • 2- �=
companies to continue to divert later in the year than usual, I
some to the end of October.
Temperatures were slightly above normal averaging

River flows fell below average for the first time this
year. The Dolores River only averaged 61%of normal. Some
spring flows and return flows, however, remain high. The La
Plata River Compact requirements were more than met
utilizing return flows even though the river channel was dry ANIMAS RIVER AT DURANGO
