WATER LEVELS IN THE LOWER SOUTH PLATTE NETWORK
Explanation
Geologic Units
All of the monitoring wells in this report are completed in unconsolidated gravel, sand silt, and
clay of predominantly alluvial origin. The following subdivision is based upon location of the
wells with respect to modern stream channels, floodplains, terraces, and interstream divides.
Qal - Recent stream alluvium and floodplain deposits.
Qoav - Alluvium of areas not within a distinct floodplain; upland areas along interstream
divides; includes deposits of eolian origin.
Qt - Alluvium underlying terraces identified and mapped by other investigators.
Stream Reach
Each of the monitoring wells included in this report has a code following the Geologic Unit
indicating the stream reach or tributary reach of the well (e.g. Qal/BIA).
Code Reach of Stream
SPA Mainstem of South Platte from Greeley downstream
USP Upper South Platte: Platte Canyon to Greeley
PCA Plum Creek drainage
CCA Coal Creek drainage
CLP Cache La Poudre drainage
BVA Beaver Creek drainage
BIA Bijou Creek drainage
LCA Lost Creek drainage
BEC Box Elder Creek drainage
LTC Lone Tree Creek drainage
TCA Third Creek drainage
CHC Cherry Creek drainage
-4-
