This project was done in cooperation wih the
Upper Black Squirrel Creek Ground Water Management District and some of the local well owners. This
year, as in past years, the funding for this proJect was supplied in part from well permit fees collected and
managed by the Office vf the State Engineer as a result of the passage of Senate Bill 20D during the 1987
legislatie session.
A total of 22 well sites were visited with 21 wells being measured, recorded and hydrographs constructed.
Changes in water leel from last year's readings for the alluial aquifer range from a decline of —12.1 D feet
in T12S, Rfi2W, Sec. 30, to a rise of 2.25 feet at three dfferent Iocations. The lowest decline in 23 was
4.30 feet less than the Iowest decline in 2002. The highest rise in 203 was 4.27 feet iess than the
highest rise of 2002. The average decline for the entire basin was - 4.33 feet for 2002-2003
measurements as compared to an a►rerage decline of —3.6fi feet during the period 201-2002. A total
change fvr the 5-year period of 1999 to 23 ranges frvm a decline of —19.30 feet in T13S, R63W, Sec.
26 to a rise of 11.37 feet in T13S, R53W, Sec. 25. The average decline for the last 5-year period is —1.04
feet per year (1999-2003}, as compared to an aerage decline of -0.82 feetlyear for the 5-year period
(1997-2UO2).
Results of the measurements of Dener Basin bedrock wells will be pubfished in the annual report for #he
bedrock aquifers, which wiil be aailable in June of this year.
The table of water level measurements included in this report is organized by location. fnforma#ivn
presented inctudes location, water leveis measured prior to the 1988 measurements made by this offce,
the 1988 through 2003 measurements and changes be#ween 202/2003. Also included are 22 well
hydrographs of wells measured in the basin {with all years of record}. The final six pages of this repor are
maps of water level decline from the initial water leel measurements to each of the years 1998 through
2003. The first 2 pages immediately following this report depicts water level changes frvm 2002 to 2003
and 2001 to 2002 with the outlined boundary of the Upper Black Squirrel Alluium. The maps depict a
history of water decline within the Upper Black Squirrel alluvial aquifer.
