DIVISION OF RECLAMATION, MINING AND SAFETY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Phone: (303) 866 -3567
FAX: (303) 832 -8106
November 13, 2012
Darren Gebhart
McAtee Construction Company
P.O. Box 1908
Sterling, CO 80751
STATE OF COLORADO
RE: Green Bros Pit No. 2; DRMS File No. M- 1995 -030; Adequacy Review — 02 (CN -01)
6.4.4 Exhibit D — Mining Plan
Mined Land Reclamation
COLORADO
D I V I S I O N O F
RECLAMATION
MINING
— &—
SAFETY
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Loretta E. Pined
Director
The Division has identified several other comments and questions that must be addressed prior to
the Division's decision due date. Please be advised that if you are unable to satisfactorily
address any concerns identified in this review before the decision date, it will be your
responsibility to request an extension of the review period. If there are outstanding issues
that have not been adequately addressed prior to the end of the review period, and no
extension has been requested, the Division will deny this application.
1. The Applicant has stated the natural angle of repose of the pit walls will be 2.5H:1V. Please
describe the basis for this assumption or otherwise demonstrate to the Division that the pit
walls will adhere to a 2.5H:1V grade during mining. Also, describe how the Operator will
verify that the mine face is maintained at 2.5H:1V for the proposed wet mining operation.
2. Please provide the Division with a typical cross section which shows the slope of the mining
face during active operations. The cross section should depict the point of maximum
disturbance when the top of the mine slope reaches the mining line. In addition, include the
25' offset and the permit boundary line.
3. The Applicant has stated that reject sand will pumped back into the pits. Please clarify if
there will be a single discharge point for each of the pits where the reject sand will be
pumped or if the sand will be pumped around the perimeter of the pits. If the reject sand will
be pumped at a single point, then specify the location. The Division recommends that reject
sand be pumped into the pits as far away from any permanent man -made structures as
possible, in order to increase the distance between blasting and said structures.
4. The Applicant has stated a 25' setback from the permit boundary will be maintained. In
addition, the Applicant has stated that the mining line will be maintained at a distance of 75'
inside of the 25' setback. Please commit to marking both the 25' setback and the mining line
in the field.
Office of Office of
Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
