Access
road was well maintained.
Observations: Previous adit closure had been removed. Preparations for concrete pour
for interior bulkhead were near completion. Interior bulkhead location was approximately
150' from portal mouth. Tunnel constriction at prepared location allows final bulkhead to
function as wedge plug.
Loose rock was not observed at interior bulkhead location. Tunnel walls and roof at
interior bulkhead location were clean and dry. SGC representatives stated that
preparations included removal of loose rock, sandblasting, washing, and vacuuming of
roof, walls and floor. No open fractures were observed at the interior bulkhead location.
Parent rock appeared competent, one mineralized fracture observed in roof. Small pump
was installed and operating, directing tunnel drainage through bulkhead location. Floor of
bulkhead location will be final washed and vacuumed, and pump removed, prior to pour.
Concrete forms were constructed of 8"x 8" timbers and 2"x 12" treated fir lumber.
Concrete forms fitted tightly with parent rock. Forms were well braced with 2.5" drill
pipe. Drill pipes were secured to angle iron, angle iron were bolted to resin bolts.
Distance between interior form faces was 5'2". Temperature and shrinkage rebar cages
were constructed of #4 rebar for vertical members and #5 rebar for horizontal members.
