Sorenson:
Sunnyside Gold Corporation (SGC) requests partial approval of TR-14
from the Division of Minerals and Geology (DMG) for construction of
the Brenneman bulkheads (F-Level and B-Level) . The following
submittal addresses the concerns (April 15, 1993 adequacy review
letter) applicable to these bulkheads . These bulkheads are non-
functional ( ie. dry bulkheads) unless the American Tunnel and
Terry Tunnel bulkheads are built and the equilibrium pool level is
higher than forecast as being the most likely level by Simon Hydro-
Search. Even so, they were structurally designed and will be
constructed for the maximum possible head that could be developed
(limited by topography) . SGC recognizes that approval for
construction of these bulkheads does not imply approval of the
American Tunnel or Terry Tunnel bulkheads by the DMG but SGC would
consider that approval signifies the design of the Brenneman
bulkheads is acceptable for the eventual intended purpose as
outlined in TR-14 .
SGC requests approval for construction of the Brenneman bulkheads ,
even though they will be non-functional if TR-14 or something
similar is not implemented, for the following reasons :
1) SGC believes that TR-14 is a viable plan for final reclamation
and restoration of an approximation to the pre-mining
hydrologic balance.
2) Construction of the Brenneman bulkheads will allow for
a reduction in current and future site access maintenance
costs. These costs will be ongoing until the concept of TR-14
is abandoned or the bulkheads are constructed.
3) Construction of the Brenneman bulkheads now will shorten
future TR-14 construction time requirements and provide future
water treatment expenditure savings.
