TR-14 Revision
Page 2
The following are SGC' s answers to the concerns stated in the April
15, 1993 DMG TR-14 adequacy review letter that are applicable to
the Brenneman bulkheads .
Item 4 . Construction Performance Plan
SGC agrees that quality assurance and quality control of the
bulkhead construction is important to assure performance as
designed .
SGC will commit to the following:
1) Project oversight will be by a professional engineer
(P .E . ) . Construction certification will be that the
bulkheads are built to design specifications which
includes the items listed in Item 4 of the DMG list of
concerns. If field conditions do not conform to design
assumptions, the field engineer will consult with the
design engineer and any field changes will be documented.
2) The DMG will be provided the opportunity for pre-pour
inspections . Every effort will be made to provide a 7
day advance notification to allow the DMG time to
schedule an inspection visit prior to each pour .
Item 7. Removal of Underground Equipment, Facilities and Materials
Actual bulkhead construction for the Brenneman sites will not
isolate any contaminates. The bulkhead sites are located in old
mine workings separating the Sunnyside Mine and the Brenneman/Mogul
Mine and towards the outside boundary limits of the Sunnyside Mine.
Before access maintenance is stopped, Sunnyside Gold Corp. will
inspect the affected areas and remove any items found that might
have a deleterious effect on water pool quality.
Item 8 . Potential for Failure from Thrust
The design engineer John F. Abel , Jr . P .E . prepared responses to
design adequacy questions. His letter report is attached for your
detailed review. In summary, Mr . Abel provides references and
calculations to support usage in design of the shear strength of
concrete as the critical shear strength .
