You will recall
that these activities consist of the development of the rock quarry at the northwest end of 1-Dam
for the production of riprap, and the management of inert structural fill materials around the site.
The Board of Water Works of Pueblo, Colorado (Pueblo) operates a trans-mountain diversion
along Chicago Ridge on the west edge of the Climax Mine property. Pueblo is in the process of
repairing and stabilizing this ditch and will be using rirrap material developed from the Climax
quarry located. at the northwest end of 1-Dam. Additional rirprap will be developed for future.
construction needs on the Climax Mine site. 'The quarry is located entirely within the boundaries
of affected land for the site and a financial warranty is maintained for the existing and anticipated
disturbance. The total vol'me'of material that will b'e developed during'this project is'estimated at
approximately 7,000 yards.
Persuant to Rule 3.1.5 (9), this letter is also intended as Notice to the Division of management. of
structural fill materials around the Climax Mine site. The following information is provided for
items (a)-(f) under the above referenced Rule:
(a) The attached Table 1 offers a description of the sites where backfill of structural fill is
anticipated at the Climax Mine. These sites are located entirely within the Climax Mine
Affected Land area for which a financial warranty is maintained.
(b) The approximate volumes of structural fill material are included in Table 1.
(c) A signed affidavit is attached to this letter certifying that the materials are clean and inert
as defined by Rule 1.1(24).
(d) The proposed activities will take place immediately following Division approval and will be
completed by October 15, 1999.
(e) Approved Post-Mining Land Uses for the Climax Mine include recreation, rangeland,
wildlife, and industrial land use. The sites will be prepared using dozer and excavator
equipment prior to placement of structural fill. While not anticipated, any preparations
that involve the, management of topsoil will be conducted to comply with topsoil salvage
requirements identified in Rule 3.1-.9. Fill will be placed in prepared sites and regrading
will occur to approximate original contour or to .a configuration that ties to existing
landforms and slopes. Cover placement will be consistent with permit specified depths
and grades will be established such that permitted revegetation activities may occur. In
the case of the 3-Dam, the site has been selected to facilitate final regrading and
reclamation of an existing laydown yard. The Robinson Tailing Pond site will tie to the
