Mining and safety <br />Mr. Tony Waldron <br />Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety <br />Minerals Section - East <br />1313 Sherman Street Suite 215 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203-2273 <br />Dear Mr. Waldron: <br />Re Platte Sand & Gravel, LLC - S&H Mine, <br />Annual Report- Permit No. M-2000-158 <br />Our files indicate that the anniversary date for this permit is August 10th. This pit HAS <br />NOT been granted a Temporary Cessation and it HAS operated more than 180 days this year. The <br />Financial Warranty for this operation is $800,000.00, the permitted area is 1,239.40 ac. and the pit is <br />divided into 9 Reclamation Phases. A bond reevaluation was completed in August 2010. An <br />amendment was filed in 2010 to make major changes in the approved reclamation Plan. This <br />revision was filed on behalf of Gilcrest Reservoir, LLC (landowners) to facilitate construction of <br />numerous reservoirs on the permit area. <br />Please refer to the annual report map attached for the location of the areas discussed in this <br />permit. We have chosen to use an excerpt from the Mining Plan Map showing just the disturbed <br />area. Correction tot he map have been made using a current airphoto to obtain the areas shown. We <br />will deal specifically with each of the Annual Report requirements outlined in Rule 1.15 of the Rules <br />and Regulations and the annual notice letter. <br />(1) Mining was temporarily suspended on the terrace deposit covering 10.27 acres f in the <br />Highlands Lake area (dark green). Of the 148.40 acres (/// hatch) disturbed in the Sharkey's <br />Lake area: 10.27 acres is partially reclaimed; Mining continues on 55.84 acres t(brown), of <br />which 8.00 acres f needs reclamation because it is on the mine perimeter, the remaining <br />47.84 acres lies within the reservoir has been excavated below the water table so no <br />reclamation is needed at this time. The Plant Site and material storage area covers 25.00 <br />acres t (orange); The gravel pit lake is 10.10 acres and the remaining 38.78 acres is stripped <br />ready for mining or is in settling pond area that is being backfilled. We have approximately <br />85,000 yd3 of topsoil stored on 15.72 acres around the mining area (tan). The topsoil is being <br />saved for when reclamation begins. Slurry wall construction on the Sharkey's Lake area was <br />certified by the Office of the State Engineer in February 2008. <br />(2) Grading, shaping and resoiling is complete in the Highlands Lake area.
