Martin
Executive Director
The Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety finished the Colorado Stone Quarries (CSQ) amendment
application, AM-01, technical and administrative review. The amendment is for construction designs for
a comprehensive storm water control system for the Yule Stone Quarry and addition of surface area for
the lower storage area. Colorado Stone appears to have addressed all issues noted by DRMS staff
during the review process. Therefore DRMS is approving Amendment AM-01.
Specifically the amendment:
• Increases the upper mine area to 8.98 acres.
Increases lower storage area to 0.92 acres for a total of 9.9 permitted acres.
• Incorporates an engineered stormwater management plan that includes five (5) sedimentation
ponds, associated ditches, road grading, and vegetation to manage stormwater and
sedimentation of surface run-on and run-off from haul roads and dump areas to prevent
degradation to the prevailing hydrological balance.
• Increases the reclamation liability bond from the current $55,000.00 held to $78,250.00.
It is important to note that regular maintenance and monitoring of the stormwater structures must be
done as proposed to ensure capacity is maintained. It is the operator's utmost responsibility to ensure
that all best management practices are upheld during blasting, construction, and future operations to
prevent off-site damage to neighboring property both at the mine site and the lower storage area. No
surface deposition of underground mined materials can occur at the upper mine area until CSQ has
written approval of acceptance of constructed structures from DRMS.
Office of Office of
Mined Land Reclamation Denver • Grand Junction • Durango Active and Inactive Mines
