Doc Date:12/11/2001 III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
• ~~(^ 2.05.4 RECLAMATION PLAN
Reclamation is an integral part of current and future operations for the Southfield
Mine. Given that the Southfield Mine is an underground mining operation, mining
and reclamation do not occur sequentially. However, those operations assoaated with
ongoing surface disturbance ut the coal refuse stockpile azea do progress in a logical
sequence from construction of drainage and sediment control structures through
revegetation and ultimate restoration of assoaated disturbance azeas. Other surface
disturbance, including that assoaated with the mine portals, roads, facilities, loadout,
and drainage and sediment control network must remain in place until all assoaated
muting operations have been completed. At that time reclamation of those azeas
associated with these facilities will be initiated to complete the mining and reclamation
cycle.
Those activities assoaated with ongoing and final reclamation of mine disturbance
areas include the following.
• o Removal of any mine structures and facilities not approved for retention to
support the postmining land use
o Sealing underground openings, boreholes and coveong any exposed coal
seams
o Backfilling and grading of mine disturbance azeas.
o Replacement of available soil resources
o Soil preparation and revegetation of mine disturbance azeas
o Post-reclamation management
Objectives of the noted reclamation activities aze nvofold; for areas of ongoing
stuface disturbance, contemporaneous reclamation serves to stabilize disturbance
areas, minimi>e erosion and prevent adverse surface water impacts; the long-term
reclamation goal is restoration of all disturbance azeas to productivities and land uses
equivalent to or greater than those which existed in the pre-mining environment. The
Southfield reclamation plan has been designed to successfully meet these objectives
and will result in a stable post-muting configuration which blends .vith suaounding
• undisturbed terrain and provides environmental values consistent with those which
extsted pnor to nilning
Minor Revision MR-4] 2.05.4-] Revised December 200]
