• \ III III III IIIIIII III
999
DEC 14 1989 111/112 Enclosure
MINED LAN-,
Permittee Name: Leadville Corpora &AWIATION DI::'r""V
Permit No: M-77-249
Operation Name: Sherman Mine
Anniversary Date: 12/15/89
Please return this form with your completed Annual Report, mom, and a
check or money order for annual fees due, payable to the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Division, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, Colorado 80203.
ANNUAL REPORT:
SHEEKLUTAIKE:
The Sherman Mine remains in temporary cession. Routine
maintenance and environmental monitoring are being conducted.
Please refer to the Sherman Mine Map and photographs 1 through 10
for further explanation of this report.
The revegetation plot was not very productive this year. So
Climax seed mix, species enclosed, was broadcasted, raked in, and
straw mulched to see if any of the species in the mix might prove
successful at this location. See photo 1 .
Five lodgepole pine seedlings were planted in an area north
east of the buildings. Since the mine is above timberline, the
success rate is not anticipated to be high, but the results ma
prove interesting.
Erosion and mine drainage control were two projects
undertaken at the Sherman Mine this past summer .
Since an NPDES permit is required for the mine drainage, a
lined ditch and settling pond were established. By having a
specific route for the water , erosion was basically controlled in
this area. See photos 2, 3, and 4 .
As you can see from photos 5 and 6, water erosion from the
Iowa Gulch diversion ditch and mine discharge can be a problem.
Late summer , we went in with a 950 Loader and tried to correct
some of the problem areas.
For the discharge from the settling pond, we built a berm
along the west side of a small ditch, photo 7 , for the containment
of the discharge water and the runoff from the area above the
ditch. Then we routed this water into the Iowa Gulch diversion
ditch. See photo 8 .
